My best friend, Matthew, swept me off my feet and proposed to me when I was 17 years old. 18 months later, in 1991, we made our vows and became husband and wife. Our life has been blessed by the addition of 4 beautiful children.
I have always had a natural inclination for helping others and my husband and when we were presented with an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children who are placed in foster care we seized it. We fostered and later adopted our 2 youngest children.
I decided to join the HomeJoy team and start my own business because I saw firsthand a great need for people with health challenges who desire to stay at home rather than in hospitals or nursing homes. I have a unique perspective because I have been working in healthcare as a nurse for more than 10 years and more specifically, I have worked in a nursing home for 5 years and have personally witnessed the tears and broken hearts as loved ones say goodbye.
Too many times my patients and their family members would choose to stay home if they knew of an option. My heart went out to them and I knew then that I needed to find a way to offer an easy and less expensive option that can bring relief to this horrible dilemma families face. My first client, after sitting with me for a few minutes, commented that she could see the excitement and passion in my face and my comforting manner.
